Help with weight   -  Mon, 18 Feb 2008 15:56:00 +0000
Today I talked with someone who was having a hard time gettin their weight under control. They said they were upset because of slow steady weight gain even though they were not doing anything different. I suggested that in fact they needed to find a way to do something different. We have some hints to start change at http://www.arfp.com/Diabetes/09_tips_on_making_changes.aspx.

'Diabetes New Day' is a free small magazine you can sign up for at www.diabetesnewday.com. This month it has some suggestions for healther lat night snacks. Some are : High-fiber cereal with low-fat milk.; whole-grain crackers; raisins; or single serving size low-sugar puddings.

Eat slower   -  Mon, 03 Dec 2007 15:11:00 +0000
I saw another blurb on the fact that if you eat a little slower, you will eat a little less and then can find it a little easier to loose weight. The trick they found is to actually lay down the fork between bites. This allows more time for your brain to realize you are full so you stop eating before you become overfull.

Diabetes - dLife.com   -  Mon, 03 Dec 2007 14:58:00 +0000
I just read a little about dLife.com, it looks like a good resource. When I know more I will post. They have a good section on recipes.

Diabetes   -  Fri, 08 Sep 2006 12:33:00 +0000
An article in the journal 'Insulin' by S. Colberg, PhD once again demonstrated the benefits of regular activity on diabetes. The article outlines findings that show that even activity like brisk walking at least 30 minutes for 5 days a week will prevent the progression to actual diabeted in people with a pre-diabetic condition and will reduce the need for medications in people with diabetes type 2.

Highly Healthy   -  Thu, 07 Sep 2006 16:35:00 +0000
I have been reading 'God's Design for the Highly Healthy Person' by Dr. Walt Larimore and will be making comments over the next few days. I'm in the chapter dealing with how loneliness has adverse effects on your health and ways to change. One section is on how a healthy / happy marriage relationship will reduce the risk of developing several diseases. He addressed the the issue of unhappy marriages too, and suggests "My prescription for a unhealthy marriage is not to amputate the mate but to heal the marriage." It makes sence to me, it may not be easy but is good medicine.
