Heart Attack or MI
A Heart Attack like Stroke is something the doctors at ARFP want
to help you avoid. Sure about 60% of the 1 million people who
have a heart attack this year will survive but they would much
happier and productive if they had been able to skip ever having the
heart attack in the first place.
IF you ever think you might be
having a heart attack - CALL 911 and go to the ER.
Many people who have a heart attack, about 25%, might not even know it,
but most will have some warning signs. The common warning signs include:
- pain, pressure, heaviness, tightness or discomfort in the chest
that may last only a few minutes that comes and goes
- radiation of that discomfort or pain to the arm, neck, jaw,
shoulders or back
- short of breath feeling
- heart racing, skipping or pounding
- weak feeling, light headed. cold sweats, nausea
If you have not yet had a heart attack a priority should be to prevent
it. The doctors at ARFP can help you with this by identifying your risks and
then helping you reduce and eliminate them. The most common risks for
developing heart disease and heart attack are high
high cholesterol,
high blood pressure,
tobacco use and a family history of heart disease.
Obesity and low levels
of physical activity also increase your chance of having heart problems.
Some other indicators of high risk are a elevated
Cardio-CRP and high
homocysteine levels on blood testing.
