Insomnia
Insomnia is poor sleep, defined as problems falling asleep, staying asleep, or unrefreshing sleep. This poor sleep can cause problems with daytime functioning. Insomnia
is a very common problem. Everyone has an occasional night of poor sleep but insomnia is more than that.
Insomnia Symptoms
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Frequent awakening in the night
- Variable sleep, several nights of poor sleep followed by a night of good sleep

The symptoms of insomnia can interfere with relationships and even job performance.
Insomnia that has lasted three months or less is called short-term insomnia. Short-term insomnia is usually caused by some type of stress. The stress can be physical, interpersonal,
psychological, or environmental. The insomnia usually resolvs when the stress goes away.
